New Footpath
The funds for the long awaited footpath, which hopefully will eventually go to Winkleigh Wood, have now been raised and path surfacing and fencing work should start soon.
The new permissible footpath will run along the southern and eastern edges of the centre and will be accessible via the pedestrian gate close to the new road crossing. The path will go past the Main building, the junior football pitch/recreational area and the biodiversity area, please note that dogs should be kept on a lead along this part of the footpath . The biodiversity area can be accessed through a gate by the footpath but please ensure that dogs do not enter this area. After the biodiversity area there will be an exercise area where dogs can be let off their leads, the path then continues alongside the farmers field to a small copse. There will be no access into the farmers fields and dog walkers will be responsible for keeping their dogs out of the fields. Dog walkers are asked to please ensure that they pick up after their dogs, a bin for dog bags will be situated at the entrance to the footpath. Please also remember that dogs will only be allowed on this area of the Sport and Recreation Centre.
Hopefully we will be able to announce the opening of this path in the next few months.
Note: Until this path is officially opened dogs are not allowed on any part of the Sport and Recreation Centre site.
The Sports and Recreation Centre currently have six 'Trustees' who plan for the future as well as ensuring that it currently remains on a sound financial base. We are currently looking for at least one more trustee to assist with the running of the centre for the people of Winkleigh.
Trust meetings currently take place on the first Tuesday of the month at 10.00, although this may be changed if necessary.
If you are interested in finding out more about the work and responsibilities of being a 'Trustee' please email Winkleigh1948@outlook.com.

There are a number of developments being planned for the next couple of years, these include:
a. Alterations to the changing rooms in the main hall to allow direct access from outside for clubs using our outdoor facilities. Work commencing this summer.
b. A new youth football pitch on land currently not used. Awaiting planning permission, this development is being privately funded.
c. The long awaited footpath to Winkleigh wood. The first part of this will take people to the biodiversity area, the path will then pass this area and go to another area allotted for dog walkers. This will take us to the edge of the recreation centre with the path eventually crossing a farmers field to the woods. The first section should be open late this summer, awaiting sufficient funds to take this forward.
d .Upgrading the children's play area. Awaiting sufficient funds.
e. A multi purpose sports area to be built in the area of the tennis courts but enlarged to allow a multitude of sports to be played. Awaiting planning permission and funds.
